2019 British Open leaderboard breakdown: Coverage, J.B. grades Holmes starts at the top in Round 1

The Ryder Cup was broken in the 2019 Open Championship at the Royal Portrush. The top of the leaderboard is littered with former Ryder Cupers in both European and American teams, and it works for what should be a good last three days.

J.B. Holmes is (not possible?) Your leader after shooting a 5-under 66, but he was hunted by some of the biggest dog games in the last 54 holes. There are some names of the monster who played the tournament ̵

1; Rory McIlroy was taken by 79 and taken by Tiger Woods 78 – but many stars are still in the mix first day play in Portrush.

Here are the leaders after 18 holes in the last major periods.

1. J.B. Holmes (-5): Holmes said his strategy well after his round when he said playing a place like the Portrush forces that cut you off pins often and you only hope to hit some putts. Holmes acquired many looks after reaching 83 percent of regulatory vegetables. Maybe the most wonderful part of her round? He first bogeyed and played the next 17 to 6 under.

2. Shane Lowry (-4): While the sun was not a good for some Irishmen, it was good for Lowry. He was a former Northern Northern Ireland success in this course and has long praised the incident and this track. His 67 looks like he's got better at 4 under 12 holes, but he can not manage anything in the last six. He put his way to the early clubhouse before Holmes cut him. He has been quiet recently with three top 10s in his last five starts.

We will split the T3 into different categories because there are so many of them in 3 under.

T3 Heavyweights – Brooks Koepka, Webb Simpson, Sergio Garcia, Jon Rahm: Everyone here except Garcia shares the lead at a point in the day. Obviously, Koepka earned the most eye, and was very large, but I was carried by a ball that infect all four of these men. It seems all of this is in full control from the tee in green in Round 1 and all but Rahm has at least one main. The four were combined for seven bogeys in the day, and Rahm had three of them (two of the last four holes!). If you can quickly pass this thing on Sunday and tell me one of these is the winner, I can not even blink, though I do not warn you two golfers – Woods in Augusta and Gary Woodland at Pebble Beach – Koepka has beaten the last four majors.

T3 Contenders) – Tyrrell Hatton, Lee Westwood, Tony Finau: This is an intriguing crew. I was surprised if any of these men wins Sunday for different reasons, but they are all surprising. Westwood for what it means to win dang Open at that age. Finau because it is the fulfillment of his laugh-out-strong talent. And Hatton because an Englishman did not win since Nick Faldo in 1992. At least one of them is three until this last Sunday.

T3 Pretenders – Ryan Fox, Alex Noren, Dylan Frittelli, Robert Macintyre, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Ashton Turner: I'm not (yet) a believer. Hey, they're all solid professional golfers, but Open winners in this field this year? Noren is likely to be the most accomplished, but he is almost garbage in 2019. Aphibarnrat is the most intriguing, but he is not a top 10 in a major. The rest is almost unknown at this stage that can make for great pleasure they should hang around for another 36 holes or longer.
