The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 85 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, October 17, adding up the total to 56,672 cases.
The province has an estimated 5,273 cases in the last 30 days.
There were eight new deaths from the coronavirus reported on Saturday – with a total of 68 deaths among the last four updates – but county health officials said that does not mean the eight deaths all occurred in the past few days.
Death data in the province has been compiled from death certificates or collected through the course of case investigations and may take several weeks to process, officials said. The latest death was on October 12, but some reported the date until June, County Health Officer Dr. Clayton Chau at a conference.
The province has 1,409 virus-related deaths reported to date.
Of those who died in Orange County, 524 were experienced residents of the nursing facility, 111 were in assisted living facilities and four were listed as homeless.
The breakdown of provincial deaths by age is as follows:
- 85+: 32% (452)
- 75-84: 22% (307)
- 65-74: 20% (277)
- 55-64: 14% (199)
- 45-54: 8% (111)
- 35-44: 3% (38)
- 25-34: 1.3% (20)
- 18-24: <1% (4)
- 0-17: <1% (1)
An estimated 90% of the combined reported cases, or 50,747 people as of Saturday, have recovered. The number of people recovered is based on the previous 28-day cumulative number of cases.
The province also reported 159 patients to hospitals with coronavirus on Saturday. The peak for those hospitalized in Orange County was 722 patients on July 14. There were 56 patients listed in ICUs in the report Saturday.
The province update also reported 984,271 tests provided for coronavirus since the trial began locally, and at least 8,723 tests have been reported in the last 24 hours.
