Most Americans do not know, but we have waged war in the last 40 years in the state of Iran.
It was not a war that we declared. And often, it has become a war that our political elites and intelligence exist. This is because, like the war we have been fighting since the 9/11 attacks, it is a war that some of us have declared rather than a war we have chosen.
It started on November 4, 1979, when "radical" loyal to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini took the US Embassy in Tehran and held our diplomats hostage within 444 days.

On April 18, 1983, a suicide bomber drove a truck full of explosives at the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 63 people, including 17 Americans. (I've been reporting from that bombardment scene for USA Today at that time). The US government has never referred to who is behind the attack, although we do not know now that it is Iran. We did nothing.
President Trump said that the Americans have repeatedly been tired of endless wars. I agree. It is thus a strategy to win this war and put an end to it once and for all.
On October 23, 1983, two truck bombs killed 241 U.S. Marines and 58 French peacekeepers in Beirut. Again, Iran has ordered and executed attacks. In recent years, the Iranian regime, by leading terrorist, Imad Fayez Mugniyeh, who was kidnapped by Americans, hijacked US aircraft, and blew more embassies of the United States while we did nothing .
In 1998 Mugniyeh and his Iranian paymasters cooperated with Usama bin Laden, attacking US embassies in Africa, driving a boat carrying explosives at the USS 9/11 attacks won more than $ 18 billion in damages against the Islamic state of Iran in US courts, based on evidence that Iran is "in material and directly supported al Qaeda" in the preparation and practice of attack.
Iran is also targeted at US soldiers in the battlefield, killing more than 1,000 US troops with specialized improvised explosive devices in Iraq, putting a bounty on US service personnel in Afghanistan , most recently targeting US forces in Syria. The killing is still ongoing.
President Trump said that the Americans have repeatedly been tired of eternal wars. I agree. So here's a strategy for winning this war and ending it once and for all.
First, we need to increase military pressure in Iran by cutting its "land bridge" through Syria to the northern border of Israel. This can be done by continuing to support the US base in al Tanf in southeastern Syria, whether it is governed by Kurdish or allied Arabs or US military members.
Next, we have to drive Iran out of charity in Iraq, by convincing the Iraqi government to abolish the Shiite militias advocated by Iran emitting weapons and material through the territory of Iraq in Syria, and in by disseminating Iranian agents to the Iraqi government.
Third, we must provide material, political and diplomatic support to the pro-independence movement within Iran, threatening the regime to the depth of its weakness – its lack of democracy

And fourthly, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has to encourage US friends and allies at an international meeting in the Middle East in Poland to adopt new multilateral economic sanctions against Iran. These should include steps to freeze Iranian government assets so that victims of Iranian terrorism in EU judgments may file a claim to them abroad.
Justice for victims of terrorism should be part of the U.S. strategy. to defeat Islamic dictatorship in Iran. After all, keeping the fat on the banks' accounts abroad is something that mullahs have in ruins in Iran's wealth. Let's hear how hurt we are.
