Anthony Chisholm, the actor who played Burr Redding in the HBO prison drama Oz, died at the age of 77. Although no cause of death was immediately granted, his death was confirmed by The Katz Company.
Most famous for his recurring work OzLast three seasons, Chisholm has starred in a total of 23 episodes from 2001-2003. Among his other TV credits Law and Order: SVU, High Maintenance, Random Flying Works, Hack and Hulu drama last year Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
Chisholm is a prolific stage veteran who often collaborates with playwright August Wilson. He starred as Wolf in Wilson̵7;s original run Two Trains Running, which debuted on Yale Repertory in 1990 and on Broadway in 1992. He also starred in Wilson Jitney and the first running of Jewel of the Ocean at Radio Golf, the last one to win Tony Chisholm’s nomination for Best Actor in a 2007 Play.
In 2017, he returned to Broadway for the resurrection of Jitney, who eventually won Tony for Best Revival of a Play. He continued to perform on the national production tour which was packed from September 2019 to February 2020.
Other well-known credits include classic cults Putney Swope, Jonathan Demme’s Dear and to Spike Lee Chi-Raq.
The actor is survived by his son, Alexander Chisholm, his daughter, Che Chisholm and his wife, along with his two grandchildren.
