SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – In the face of more possible turmoil during the protests over George Floyd’s death, many malls in the area have closed for the day and at least one has been damaged.
The Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento and both Sherwood and Weberstown malls in Stockton have announced they will be closed on Sunday. The Stockton Police Department confirmed on social media that a group of people fell out the window at the Weberstown Mall and gained entry.
No official demonstration is planned at either mall. However, Stockton police said they were aware of a social media post that was distributed that encouraged people to rob the Weberstown Mall.
The group that broke into the mall was made up of 12 juveniles that police said vandalized at least three separate stores. No arrests have been announced.
Only two of the malls reopened for in-store shopping this week after closing for almost two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
