This week on Twitter, Destiny 2 community manager DMG ask for people to accompany their feedback for the Festival of the Lost, as it is all collected and can be implemented in future iterations of the holiday event.
So, here I am with a daily range of Destiny to fill out, and I have some thoughts. I will say that at the outset, I understand that this year’s Festival of the Lost is likely to be implemented at the last minute in some measure, given that it could have been completely different if it had been launched when Beyond Light hit. But we do not know those details for sure, and we only have the final product we need to make.
So, let’s separate it.
Chiphers Are Bad, Your Drop Rate Does Not Matter – Ciphers are a bad idea, poorly implemented. Even if the rate of decline increases, the best process for the “farming” Festival of the Lost is to … run patrols or Nightmare Hunts to get ciphers, then make a single operation (or AFK firewalled run ) of the Haunted Forest to open the five cache breasts one at a time. You already have other activities implemented at the Festival with candy and coins, I do not know why they need to force people to run 3-5 or more non-Forestry activities to make an optimal Forest run. That sounds strange. All it took was… farther away from the Forest, getting more caches eventually. So far there is no literal reason to go to the additional branches and make it really felt like wasted time and effort.
Armor Set Rad – This is my favorite set of armor events they’ve done, and miles better than last year’s tiny outlines, which I would consider the worst Eververse set besides the Guardian Games armor. More scary Guardian armor in the future please. In a perfect world, we could get these ornaments by grinding the Forest somehow, but I understand that holiday events are meant to be profitable. That said, Bungie has been shown to be open to getting Eververse armor from the store in the past and using it as a premium reward (Daito Prophet wearing), so never say ever.
Guns Are A Bust – Again, maybe this is a last minute thing, but just returning the last two years of guns with random rolls is tedious, and the guns are not particularly good at first (I guess Horror Story is okay ). I definitely want to see something like, Duty Bound as a 1.0 weapon given new life as “Death Bound” or something with new perks. Ultimately, I was not motivated enough to cultivate them.
Earning Exotic Cosmetics Is Great – This is a very positive change! The ability to capture the strange ghost, ship and sparrow from Eva by grinding challenges is a steady move. True, the challenges are not good because of the cipher problem, but the concept is good in theory somehow. I think Bungie realizes we want to earn this kind of thing instead of buying it on the Eververse.
Better Graduates – Come on, it’s Halloween. Give us like a slasher murder finisher where you kill enemies with a meat cleaver or whatever. An inch punch? What does this have to do with Halloween?
Mascara – Like Mask designs is fine in my opinion, though the paper mache effect makes many of them look weird. And I like the idea of different mods doing things in the Haunted Forest. But the problem with masks is A) they have no space for things like Warmind Cells or Charged with Light mods, so they mess up the builds and B) I just bought this awesome Hunter werewolf helmet and I can’t wear it because I have to wear a Mask in that space for a month.
Stop the Haunted Forest – Basically, I think it’s time for Forest to go. I do not know if it will be forced to retire by sunset, because it is probably part of Mercury, but if not, I mean, three years now and this event has changed slightly. Okay, but I think it’s time to move on. Haunted EAZ, perhaps? Or really, just a whole new thing would be good at this point, and then you can use yan for another three years I guess.
More Secrets – Getting Ascendant Lens, which seems to lead to something cool and secret, is fine. But if not, don’t bother us with things that don’t come out. I want more secret things like this to be included in holiday events that will lead to truly great rewards. I’m not saying make it a “you have to be there” kind of thing, because you can only give rewards to people who don’t get it later, but they will miss the fun part of secret hunting on time.
