Disney To Sell One Of The Last Great Playground Studies, Report Reported

Disney's entertainment giant has reportedly taken another big step from home game development. According to sources speaking to Bloomberg's financial publication, Disney is planning to sell game developer / publisher FoxNext, which it acquired by acquiring Fox earlier this year.

The site reports that various Disney executives, including direct-to-consumer consumer Kevin Mayer, are considering retaining FoxNext. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly shut it down, and ultimately decided to sell FoxNext. Officially, Disney has no comment.

FoxNext was founded in 2017 with the aim of managing Fox's video game, virtual reality, augmented reality, and theme park efforts. In 201

8, FoxNext announced that it is working on a new Alien shooter with a team made up of people working on BioShock, Borderlands, and Star Trek: Online.

In terms of games already released by FoxNext, the company is working with The Aftershock Studios on the mobile game Marvel Strike Force; released in March 2018. Earlier in 2019, FoxNext announced that it had created a program to fund the development of indie games; the first of these is the gravity-based puzzle game Etherborn.

If Disney decides to sell FoxNext, it's no surprise that the move of House of Mouse has shifted the game's interior development for a long time. In 2016, Disney closed the Disney animated series and shut down developer Avalanche Software in the process.

Previously, Disney closed the Tron Evolution studio Propaganda Games, which is working on Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the damned before its cancellation. Disney also owns game developer Black Rock Studios who made the great racing games Pure and Split / Second before closing that studio. Disney also developed Epic Mickey video games with Warren Spector's Junction Point Studios, but the company terminated the franchise and closed the developer in 2013.

Bungie founder Alex Seropian took the business to the forefront. at Disney gaming before he left to build a mobile game studio called Industrial Toys later acquired by EA.

During a revenue call earlier this year, Iger discussed Disney's rocky history with development and publication. we buy companies, we sell companies, we buy developers, we close developers. And we have found in recent years that we have not been particularly good on the part of self-publishing, but we have been very good on the licensing side that clearly does not require a lot of capital allocation, "says Iger. [19659002] One of the Disney video players is EA, which has signed a 10-year deal with the company to make Star Wars games. Iger says licensing arrangements have been positive for EA on the side of video games, and you can expect them to continue in the future.

No word yet on potential buyers for FoxNext, if Disney really sells the company. Continue to review GameSpot for the latest. [19659011] PhoenixLoader.thirdPartyCallback ("facebookPixel", function () {
