Dr. Anthony Fauci that the coronavirus pandemic needs to get “really, really bad” before he can favor a national lockdown. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a leading voice in the pandemic speaks to Dr. Jon LaPook for a report to be broadcast in the next edition of 60 Minutes, Sunday, October 18, at 7 pm, ET / PT on CBS.
An excerpt from that interview was broadcast on “CBS Evening News with Norah O̵7;Donnell” Friday night.
“How much will it take for you to promote a national lockdown?” LaPook asked Fauci in the clip.
“They have to get really, really bad,” Fauci said. “First of all, the country is tired of restrictions. So we want to use public health measures, not to interfere with the opening of the economy, but to be a safe path to the opening of the economy. So instead have opposition: open the economy [to] get jobs back, or kill. No. Put ‘shut down,’ away and say, ‘We will use public health measures to help us safely get where we want to go. ”
