First impressions of Pixel 5: 5 are things we think you will enjoy [Video]

While North America is waiting, some European markets are already shipping Pixel 5 to pre-ordered ones. We spent 24 hours with our own retail unit to give you some of our first impressions of the Pixel 5.

Before launching, we thought about what would be a “mid-range” but still “premium” Pixel 5. Unlike the “a” series Pixels like 3a and 4a, this is a real transfer from Google in terms of hardware but also in performance.

On paper, the Pixel 5 has a benchmark chipset similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. It is certainly true that the specifications can give you impartially good hint of what to expect in advance, but they often tell only part of the story.

That doesn’t mean that our first impressions have not been restrained by the “moderate” internal Pixel 5. But they were thrown out the window rather quickly we actually got a grip on this Pixel.

After 24 hours on the latest Google Made phone, here are five reasons we think you’ll love the more affordable flagship Android.

Reverse wireless charging

As far as the things you like about the Pixel 5, the return of wireless charging can come as a surprise. That being said, if you own a pair of Pixel Buds or other earbuds that come with Qi billing support, alas this is a nice little bonus addition. I barely lost the Pixel 5 in the box and even at this early stage, I used the feature twice.

The ability to top-up my earbuds for five or 10 minutes here and proven to be an amazing feature – that of Pixel devices I never thought I really needed. Yes, other devices already have it, but it is still a good choice to have when your companion earbuds can be topped up while traveling. Heck, you are also not limited to headphones either as reverse wireless charging may be a good choice if a friend or family member needs a small battery bump to pass them on for the rest of their day.

Textured rear panel

Naturally, as the first impressions, and if you are not using the case or abusive, then the aluminum chassis coated with Pixel 5 resin can be loved immediately. I will say this in advance: it feels like plastic but in a good way. The glass is great, and the text glass is even better, but for grip, a plastic or plastic-like texture is superior.

Even at this early stage, I feel less inclined to put the Pixel 5 in a case than previous models, especially since the “Sorta Sage” variant requires more than the model Just Black “. Occurrences that are strictly “counter-case” are likely to prefer not to worry about damage to a back glass panel either.

Larger battery

To Google’s credit, the difficult initial battery life in last year’s Pixel 4 series was fixed with the release of the Android 11 Beta phase and the full release. However, getting a larger 4,000-4,080mAh cell is still a big bonus, especially as the display is smaller and slightly lower resolution – you will no longer notice the collapse in FHD +.

After my first 24 hours on the Pixel 5, my first impressions were pretty good. Battery life seems really solid, which I don’t always say about any of my previous flagship Pixel devices. The bonus here is that the Snapdragon 765G is a less energy-hungry chips, so we must ensure that longevity remains good.

Billing speeds can be a little faster across the board, but they are probably enough for everyday, especially until now, when you do not seem to have to look for a charger as often.

Consistent screen bezels

It’s amazing to think that the Pixel 5 is effectively the first Android smartphone to have equal bezels on all sides of the device, and it sure leaves an impression. If you compare directly to the Pixel 3 XL and 4 XL, you will see the evolution of the design.

Sure, not everyone will be a fan of the hole-in-the-hole cutout, but if it brings us more Google-made smartphones with a symmetrical look, we’re sure it will be a huge hit. It is confusing that Samsung made the OLED display but decided that it not only wanted to offer symmetrical bezels, but the loss of Samsung fans was captured by the Pixel fans we thought. Although, we hope to see more Android devices using similar screen panels in the coming years.

Compact form factor

We didn’t get the “proper” Pixel 5 XL that I’m sure many expect this year, but the slightly denser nature of the Pixel 5 still leaves a great first impression on me as someone who often prefers the larger devices. This is enough of a step in size on the Pixel 4a but still small enough for most people because smaller bezels mean the screen real estate is still impressive at 6 inches.

As we’ve seen wolf of smartphones in recent years, the Pixel 5 is smaller – because it really isn’t small in the traditional sense – an option for those who don’t want to carry what a pocket tablet equals.

What are you excited about Pixel 5?

Those are some of our early or first impressions on the Pixel 5, but what do you expect or expect the most? Let us know in the comments section below. Have you pre-ordered the Pixel 5 or the Pixel 4a 5G? Be sure to tell us what model you chose and why it is there as well.
