Heavy boom with flash of light startles meters

MINNEAPOLIS – It's a bird, it's a plane, it's … maybe a meteor?

A huge flash of light combined with a powerful boom has many people asking the KARE 11 facebook page what happened.

The sudden flash occurred at 2 am, according to reports from Brooklyn Park, Shakopee, New Brighton, Coon Rapids and Otsego.

Michael Stanga got the moment and tapped a short clip called a meteor flash.

Another Facebook user at New Brighton said they heard a powerful boom around 2:10 a.m., followed by a second louder boom and some rumbling.

According to the American Meteor Society, they received numerous reports of fireballs a night, including some in Minnesota.

The winter solstice ̵

1; marking the longest night and the lowest hour of day light of the year – is Friday.

In addition, for some added chaos, there will also be a full moon and the Ursid meteor shower.

James from Shakopee tweeted another video showing more than one flash in the sky, but a clear fireball.

A similar flash of light was also seen in northern California.
