Iranian forces say commandeer tanker in the Persian Gulf, Centcom said



Iranian forces on Wednesday ordered a tanker in the Persian Gulf, a video released by the U.S. Central Command shows.

The seizure of the tank, called “Wila,” took place in international waters, the Central Command wrote in its Twitter post.

Iranian forces include two ships and an Iranian “King King” helicopter. The video from Central Command shows an approaching helicopter and soldiers landing in a tank.

Michelle Wiese Bockmann, a maritime expert, wrote that the ship was associated with Greek owners and sailed under a Liberian flag.

Iran has not yet commented on the matter.

The report, if confirmed, could alleviate tensions in the boiling place last year after Iran hijacked two British tanks in the Strait of Hormuz.
