Perhaps we have been guilty of using cotton cotton to clean our ears at one point and if you are one of them you may just want to stop doing it. That's because a 31-year-old British man was reported to have experienced a potentially deadly brain infection after he had used a cotton wrap to clean his ears. Based on a Live Science report, an unknown person has performed a necrotising otitis externa that starts in his ear canal, before it infects the bone at the base of his skull and continues to uplift his brain, the meninges . Necrotising otitis externa is defined as a bacterial infection that targets the skull edge and this case was reported to the British Medical Journals on March 6 as well but not clear when it happened.
However, this infection spread to his ear and brain for about five years before doctors discovered it and they were surprised. The man seems to be experiencing symptoms of infection within five years but does not realize it.
He told doctors he had experienced illness and hearing loss in his left ear in recent years but when he went to the doctors, he was only treated for two severe ear infections. The situation worsens until he gets hurt on the bad head, the pain is softening him.
The infection has not been discovered until he or she starts experiencing neurological symptoms such as seizures and can not remember the names of people, before being completely destroyed and taken to the hospital in Coventry. Doctors ran several tests including a CT scan in his brain before found that there were two squid filled with abscesses in the bones at the base of his skull. That's bad!
Further inspection, they discovered the end of a cotton bud lodged in one of his ears after using a cotton baby to clean them. The infected cotton wool is wrapped in wax and surrounded by lips when they remove it from his ear.
Luckily for the man, he made a full recovery after a small operation was made to remove cotton wool and he was put on an intensive two-week course of antibiotics to ensure without any infection. Some of the symptoms associated with this infection include repeated and slippery yellow or green cats that emerge from the ear, earache, hearing loss and sealing that will not go to the ear of the ear.
Additionally, cotton cotton should be used to clean the outer parts of your ears and not discouraged because it pushes the ear and makes it worse. In fact, the NHS advises people to leave their ears alone because they often fall into their own selves. Alternatively, you can place two to three drops of olive or almond oil in your ear twice a day for a few days. Alternatively, you can visit the pharmacist for ear drops to soften the wax or see a doctor to red or suck the wax if you feel you are annoying.
Remember to always seek professional medical advice if you are experiencing any health issues!
