As astronomer Karol Wójcicki wrote on his blog "With the head on the stars", November 11 will be a celebration of all astronomy lovers. That day Mercury will change – we will see the first and smallest planets in the solar system pass before the sun.

Occasionally seen in Poland

According to Wójcicki, Monday transit is one of the most interesting phenomena seen from Poland this year. The last time we can observe this phenomenon is in 2016. The next such event will not appear until 2032.

The whole phenomenon can be seen in South America and the eastern regions of North America. In Europe, transit is expected to be seen only slightly. This will happen in the early afternoon and will be visible until sunset.

The first contact occurred at 1

3.35 and the second at 13.37. In Warsaw, the day will set at 15.50, which is just before the maximum transit at 16.20.

Guard the security of observations

Wójcicki warned, however, that the phenomenon would not be visible to the naked eye. For observation binoculars or binoculars equipped with specialized solar filters should be used. Non-filterable observations can result in instantaneous vision loss.

Planets between the Sun and the Earth

From the perspective of the Earth, we can observe two types of transit – Mercury and Venus. Transfers of other planets are particularly rare and will not occur until 2117.

Transfers were discovered by Johannes Kepler in 1600. Scientists have learned that both planets pass through the disk of day in 1631. Another such year was 13425.

The phenomenon has allowed scientists in the last centuries to measure the distance between the Sun and Earth. Transfers also make it possible to study and understand the composition and density of gases surrounding Mercury. Thanks to this phenomenon, scientists are being guided in a way to track planets walking decades of star lights away

Not just moving

A few days ago, Elon Musk confirmed that on November 11 at 15.51 the Falcon 9 rocket had 60 satellites of the constellation Starlink.

According to Wójcicki, Starlink is a project of a satellite network to ensure access to the Internet anywhere on the planet. When the rocket launches them into orbit, they are all released at once, so we can observe their group flying in the form of a bright sky line. After a few days, the satellites will reach their destination.

The orbit of the second group of satellites is unknown. Wójcicki writes that there are times when it can be seen in our country, but things must hit the right track. In the absence of Polish observers, a few dozen minutes after the start you will be able to assess the opportunity to see a group of satellites in our country on the night of November 11-12.
