Sweden will host the largest DOTA tournament in 2020 when International returns to Europe.
The announcement was made before The International 9 Grand Final between Team Liquid and OG.
This will be the first TI to be held in Europe since the first incarnation of the event back in 2011 in Cologne, Germany.
Since the first TI, Seattle, Vancouver and now Shanghai have hosted a premiere esports competition that boasts some of the biggest pools available for grabs.
The winner of this year's contest will be worth more than $ 15,000,000. This year, over $ 34,000,000 has been raised, making it the largest esports prize in history. This year's TI winner will receive more than $ 15 million in prize money, which means each team will also be crowned the winner of the Fortnite World Cup solo competition.
Stockholm mayor Anna König Jerlmyr said the city is excited to host this global festival. "The passion for DOTA runs deep," he said in the announcement video.
"We are honored to host the world in the enjoyment of your favorite team … as they compete for the most prestigious trophies in all sports."
With a European team coming home to Aegis in 2019, its defense of 2020 on home soil will prove to be a worthwhile experience.
