MESA, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Police said a man in a small SUV was shooting at families at a food truck event on Friday night, injuring seven people, including four children.
“They crossed the line. They shot the kids. It was unacceptable,” Mesa Police Chief Ken Cost told a news conference on Saturday afternoon.
Cost said food trucks were built near the roads of Dobson and Guadalupe. At around 9:30 pm, a white Kia Soul-type or small box-type SUV climbed on Guadalupe Road and fired at the eating families.
“One of the workers at the scene saw this happen and returned fire on the vehicle,”; Cost said.
The driver boarded the Guadalupe and boarded the Tempe. Cost said detectives did not know if the SUV was hit or not. No description of the suspect was released.
The four children injured were ages 1, 6, 9 and 16 years old. The cost did not specify the age of the adults or the gender of the victims. 1 year old was in critical condition while others suffered severe minor injuries and were expected to survive.
Cost said last night, a man attacked a woman and one of the food truck vendors along with other customers broke into a fight. The man left and investigators checked to see if he was connected to the shooting.
Mesa police are asking for public help and witnesses will come forward with photos and videos.
“There are people who know the suspects who committed this crime. They know who the shooters are,” Cost said.
Anyone with information on this hunt is asked to call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
Mesa PD is currently investigating an incident in Dobson and Guadalupe. Please avoid the area if possible.
