Small luxury SUVs are like opinions and, you know, everyone has got one. The latest Lincoln is the 2020 Lincoln Corsair, sharing its modular platform with all new Ford Escape and slipping into the dock this fall next to the midsize Lincoln Nautilus, three-row Aviator and battleship-sized Navigator.
Lincoln offered publishers a preview of Corsair in front of official unveiling Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show. And although the replacement of the slow-moving Lincoln MKC appears well and outlined, Ford's luxury unit must prove that it can win customers in a kill-or-kill segment that includes the highest seller Acura RDX, Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Range Rover Evoque and many other names.
Amid the marketing-and-design apparel from Lincoln overseers-including references to the slogan "Silent Flight" of the brand, and interiors as "human sanctuaries" -We did not dig to understand how Corsair might appear in its sharp-elbowed marketplace. The rear is the highlight designs, including "S-curves" that shorten stacked saucers-or a toned-down Renault-with slim LED taillamps and a full-width lighting strip en vogue . Passenger and freight space (and external visibility) are strongly suited: Escape, the second-seat Corsair seat may slide six inches before and beyond, for more maximum legroom (at 38.6 inches) than some bigger SUVs, including Mercedes GLS-Class and Tesla Model X. manually operated, in contrast to some of their full strengthened rivals. But the freight gap behind the straight second row is also generous, as Lincoln showed by hanging on four huge luggage inside. Lincoln does not release pricing for 2020 Corsair who goes on sale in the fall. But the nearly $ 36,000-to- $ 37,000 base fare seems to be a safe bet, a relationship of more than one current MKC, and similar to the RDX of Acura.
