The Stadia Founders welcomed codes not coming as promised

Players around the world are looking forward to the launch of Google Stadia, for the past eight months. Today, many of the pre-ordered Stadia Founders Edition do not accept their invitation code to start playing, but Google is actively working on a solution to the problem.

Update: Google has publicly confirmed who has and has not sent their invitation code, and how to forward the codes.

In the wake of the launch of Google Stadia today, Google has repeatedly promised Founders Edition pre-orders that their devices will be shipped in the order that pre-orders are received. In addition, it is promised that the invitation codes will be sent once your order is shipped, but no earlier than 9am today.

Now that the launch day has arrived, however, many have found that the "first come, first served" basis for Google Stadia's arrival is not grounded in reality. For example, of the four people here at 9to5Google who pre-ordered Stadia the same day as the first Stadia Connect on June 6, only one of us received an invitation code.

Similarly, Stadia the subreddit and the official Stadia Discord community are filled with hundreds if not thousands of reports of people pre-ordering on June 6 who also have not received a code of invitation. Meanwhile, the same communities show many examples of people who had preordered later gained access to Stadia.

While waiting a few hours to get an invitation code to access Google's game platform may not seem like a big deal, the issue with registering your Stadia Name remains. Having the first dibs on a potentially scarce name is more than reasonable enough for some to pre-order the Stadia Founders Edition soon.

Almost four hours after Stadia's initial launch, Google has now made the issue public to Founders who do not accept invitation codes on both Discord and Reddit.

Hello @everyone We are aware that some of you who have been pre-ordered by Founder Edition may not have received your invitation code in the expected time-frame. The Stadia team is actively investigating this issue, and we will be back with an update soon. Thank you for your patience. -ChrisFromGoogle

In addition, a brief product manager for Google Stadia Andrey Doronichev shared, then deleted, a statement that their engineering team was actively looking into the problem. [19659004] Stadia Invitation Codes deleted tweet

Update 11/19 3:45 pm : According to a new statement, Google has resolved the issue and resumes sending codes Stadia's invitation in the right order, as originally promised. 19659015] We are sorry for the delayed response. We have identified an issue where a small portion of Stadia's access codes have been sent in sequence. That was determined. We continue to issue codes in the order in which we receive your pre-order. We look forward to seeing you at Stadia.

Update 11/20 7:45 pm : In a second announcement, Google has confirmed that each player will be charged for a pre-stadia Founders Edition of Stadia order placed between June 6 and June 30 received their invitation code. All pre-orders placed from July 1st onwards are reported to be handled sequentially.

We can confirm that if the Founder Edition was first ordered in June, and your payment form is now charged, your access code will be sent to Stadia by email. We will be moving in order through orders placed on or after July 1st.

Needless to say, with all of the other issues facing Google Stadia today, such as mixed reviews, lack of clear brand messaging, and concerns about video quality, things are not going well for Google Stadia on Day 1.
