Trail Blazers Vs. Jazz score: Takeaways as Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert leads Jazz on Christmas Day to win the Trail Blazers

The last game of the NBA Christmas Day slate between Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers has become a bit anti-climactic. Scoring 12 at halftime, the Jazz never took off and stopped 117-96 wins against their rivals of the Northwest Division.

As expected, two backcourt stars, Damian Lillard and Donovan Mitchell, appeared; Lillard finished with 20 points to lead the Blazers, while Mitchell placed 1

9 for Jazz. The difference has shown support in Utah, while Portland is not. Seven players took double figures for the Jazz in the win.

More than perhaps any other Christmas game, it's an important one in terms of playoff positioning – though it's only late in December. Stuck in the 11th place – but less than four games from a top-four seed – in the crowded Western Conference, the Jazz needs the win in a big way against another team fighting for playoff positioning.

Here are five takeaways from Utah's big win:

The Stifle Tower

Rudy Gobert was among the league leaders who were blocks in every game, and he showed why against the Trail Blazers. He is a shot-blocking machine in this game, ending a season-high seven rejections. His presence inside was a major factor in the Trail Blazers' poor shooting, as they went only 35-of-89 from the field at night. The seven blocks of Gobert are just one of the weakest of DeAndre's Christmas Day record of eight years.

Where are the other Blazers?

Damian Lillard showed up for this game, leading the way as he had a long time. Although he is not the best, Lillard finished with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists. That is not enough though, while the rest of the group does not show. Nothing else got more than 12 points, and CJ McCollum was more disappointing. Lillard's backcourt mate built only 11 points in 4-of-11 from the field.

Lillard Vs. Mitchell

This game is very easy to measure as a duel between two of the most exciting guards at the Western Conference, Damian Lillard and Donovan Mitchell. Things do not always work as we expect, but tonight they are pretty good, because two of them are well played. It was not a memorable showdown, but Lillard went for 20 points to lead the Blazers, while Mitchell had 19 for himself to help the Jazz.

Balanced Jazz Effort

Jazz is not really a real star – though it may depend on how you define that term, or how much you rate Rudy Gobert or Donovan Mitchell. In either way, they often need to work as a unit, rather than relying on one or two players. With this win, they did that. Led by 19 points from Mitchell and 18 from Gobert, seven different players have won double figures.

Big performing at Christmas

While the game itself was not doubt for many of the ways in the second half, we did at least get a number of big highlights. First, Mitchell started the game with incredible alley-oop – one of the best you'll ever see in this season.

Afterwards, Mo Harkless had a brutal attack on a late-arriving Gobert.

Finally, Gobert dropped a massive ocher of his own to close the show.
