President Trump announced on Friday the Kelly Knight Craft, ambassador to Canada, as his nominee to be the next United States ambassador to the United Nations.
"Kelly has done an outstanding job representing our Nation and no doubt that, under his leadership, our Country is seen at the highest level," Trump tweeted . "Congratulations to Kelly and her entire family!"
If confirmed the role, Craft will succeed Nikki Haley, who suddenly announced his resignation in October last year.
Haley offered his Twitter welcome following the statement. "He has done a great job representing us as @USAmbCanada and we know he is a strong voice for America in the United Nations," Haley tweeted .
The president's decision was nearly a week after the State Department spokesman Heather Nauert removed his name in consideration of the UN ambassadorship.
"I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary [Mike] Pompeo for the trust they have put in me for my consideration for the position of the US ambassador to the United Nations," Nauert said in a statement released by State Department on Saturday. "However, the past two months have harmed my family and therefore it is in the best interests of my family that I have taken my name out of consideration." was cursed as Canada's ambassador in September 2017 after being proposed by Trump's position, according to his biography on the Ambassador's website.

The website lists many Craft positions to be held in Kentucky, including the duties of leadership in the Salvation Army of Lexington. He also served at the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees, and started a marketing and business company, he said.
"In 2007, President George W. Bush appointed Ambassador Craft as an alternative delegate to the United Nations General Assembly," according to his biography.
Pompeo gave a statement saying he was "very pleased with President Trump's announcement of his intention to call Ambassador Kelly Craft to become United States ambassador to the United Nations.
