Sale in the United States grew 4.2% on holiday holiday compared to last year, including 43% increase in digital sales.
Walmart said that its online sales were getting help from the transfer of grocery pickup to stores across the country. It also expands delivery to reach more buyers. More than 10% of Walmart consumers use curbside pickup in January, according to data from Cowen. Online sales of Walmart have continued to grow over the years.
Unemployment, wage increases, and lower gas prices have also helped Walmart during the holidays. CEO Doug McMillon recognizes the strong economy for the big quarter of Walmart.
Walmart's strong vacation should be calm about fears of a troubled report from the Commerce Department last week, showing major retail sales falling 1.7% in December, the most nearly two decade.
