Walmart releases store redesign with self-checkout kiosks, contactless payment options

Walmart gets a face-lift. On Wednesday, the retail giant released a redesign of store design to 200 Supercenters at the start of 2021 and 1,000 in the next financial year.

Walmart says the new design will create a “seamless” Omni-shopping experience with more self-checkout kiosks and contactless payment options.

“We are always listening to our customers and changing our in-store, online, and mobile experience to meet and exceed their expectations,” Janey Whiteside, EVP, and Chief Customer Officer, Walmart, said in a blog post . We want their time to be enjoyable with us, and we strive to create ways for them to easily switch between shopping channels ̵

Whiteside said the new design was inspired by “airport wayfinding systems as the best examples of how to navigate large groups of people.”
