Cali, 53, brought by "Frank" or "Franky Boy," was shot 10 times with a 9mm handgun on Wednesday outside his home in the Staten Island Hilltop Terrace section.
The brazen murder was the first murder in more than 30 years by a New York City crime boss.
While the motive for murder is unclear, preliminary information suggests that it may not be related to organized crime, according to The New York Times . However, the report reports that an official warned that the decision, which says it is early in the investigation.
In a news conference on Saturday, Chief of Detectives of the New York Police Department Dermot Shea said investigators were asking whether the suspected shooter was alone or working for other people .
Shea said that there was "wide video footage" taken from the house where the shooting took place.
According to The New York Times, at 9:15 pm. on Wednesday, Comello encouraged her pickup truck at Cali's Cadillac Escalade park, then walked to the door of her house and opened the doorbell, showing herself to the video cameras.
"We have an individual approaching; there is a mind in the car in front. We still do not know if this is a ploy or if that accident," Shea said.
Shortly after, Comello fired at Cali, hit him 10 times.
Comello's truck driver recovered when he was arrested in New Jersey on Saturday, Shea said.
Shea said fingerprints were found on the Cali vehicle, which he said would be compared to Comello's at some point.
"In the victim's car in the scene of the killing that night, we believe we have fingerprints recovered from the car, as well as other places," Shea says.
An NJ Advance Media official said that Comello's family had Brick, where he was arrested by authorities on Saturday. However, even though Comello has no criminal history, Shea said she was "crossing the paths to some limited NYPD circumstances," in the past, has been more concerned with her driving record.
"In fact, the day of the incident, his tr Shea answered.
The Times said over the years that Comello brought the attention of the authorities after acting differently in a federal courthouse – it was so strange that he was briefly taken into custody and investigated for any potential history of terrorist threats. However, the report said no further details about his conduct in the courthouse.
Brooklyn federal prosecutors referred Cali to court filing in recent years as the underboss of the Gambino organization, in connection with marriage Inzerillo clan of the Sicilian Mafia.
Many press accounts since 2015 said Cali was ascended to the top spot in the gang, though he was never faced with a criminal charge stating it.
His only mob criminal conviction came a decade ago when Cali pleaded guilty to an extortion conspiracy involving a failed attempt to build a NASCAR track on Staten Island. He was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison and released in 2009.
The last crime of the family family taken in New York City was Paul Castellano. The boss of Gambino's crime was murdered outside the Sparks Steakhouse in Manhattan in 1985.
Gambino Family was once among the most powerful criminal organizations in the US, but federal persecution in the 1980s and 1990s sent of leading prison leaders and diminished its reach.
