Why is Samsung right to release the Galaxy S21 as early as six weeks

The ink is slightly dry with the announcement of the iPhone 12, and the Pixel 5 is not yet available in North America, but we are already hearing the rumbling of the next Samsung Galaxy S21 lineup coming sooner in the new year than ever before.

Samsung has had an interesting year; It announced and released the triple-play Galaxy S20 lineup correctly pandemic – this was the last personal launch event I attended – and even though the reception was extremely positive, sales numbers were non-existent. With the cheapest Galaxy S20 launching at $ 1,000 and the massive S20 Ultra demanding an equally large amount of $ 1,400, the prices of phones are not in step with a public purchase that is more interested in storing toilet paper. rather than amortizing a new pocket computer.

Big Day may be over, but these 25 deals are still available today!

But it did sell, filling its lineup with a bevy of similar looks of smartphones ranging from $ 100 to $ 2,000. If you want a Samsung phone, the company will meet you where your budget is.

Perhaps the most curious announcement came just a few weeks ago, when Samsung held a virtual event for a $ 700 phone that, in some, forgave pricing foibles from earlier in the year, and in others represent a self-cannibalizing shift in the delivery technique to confuse more than salve demand for its flagships. The Galaxy S20 FE is one of the best Android phones of the year, mainly because it maintains why the S20 lineup is so great while reducing the cost by an edible number.

But the S20 FE is likely to also have the dubious legacy of being the last phone released by Samsung before it exposes the next round of Galaxy S flagships, currently called the S21 (or Galaxy S30, depending on which leaker you are talking about). We’ve now seen the S21 and S21 Ultra renderings, and both appear to be repeated updates on phones this year.

The S21 has a flat display and the S21 Ultra is a great camera bubble hon, and the main visual update on the S20 appears to be a camera module wrapped in a bezel. If there is additional functionality in this form it will remain visible.

We hear the Galaxy S21 series will be a small minor update to the S20, but lower prices and an earlier release date may be exactly what the market wants.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the latest Galaxy S21 releases is not the phones themselves, but the expected release date: mid-January 2021, a full six weeks before Samsung typically releases the flagship Galaxy S.

Now there are many factors that the company will choose to embark on this path, but I have given it some thought, and here is what I have thought so far.

While mid-January is usually a black hole product release – after CES, where many products are announced but few are actually released – right after the holiday, making it an open schedule for any company looking a splash in the market. If the announcement comes in mid-January for a final January release, as we have heard, it will leave the field open for the company’s market against a recent competitor, and its chief rival, the iPhone 12.

Pushing the Galaxy S21 until January ensures that the new iPhones are gone yan plenty of time to breathe before the Samsung swoops in again to steal the proverb attention, and it can (although this is a stretch) cause some people to delay their iPhone 12 purchases if they know a new Galaxy S flagship is coming soon. More importantly, however, it gives Samsung more time to establish its lead in the Android competition in an increasingly competitive market.

Part of that top is inevitably due to the fact that Samsung, over the past few years, has been the first Android manufacturer to ship Qualcomm’s best-in-class Snapdragon 800-series platform. The chip designer is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 875 at its virtual two-day tech summit in early December, with production at Samsung (and possibly TSMC) exploding shortly thereafter. If Qualcomm can reach the yield of its new 5nm chip in the quantity Samsung needs for the new flagship, it could give both companies a clear leg-up as they both try to compete with Apple in their separate method – Samsung in phone sales, and Qualcomm in comparison of the Snapdragon 875 to the new A14 Bionic.

The third and perhaps most important reason for switching the Galaxy S21 series to January is giving it to Samsung others telephone lines to stand apart throughout the year. While the company focused its efforts on two major unpacked events, one in late February or early March for the Galaxy S and the other in August for the Galaxy Note, its success in Galaxy Z series folding phones could add a third major product launch to its annual cycle. And since most of 2021 is expected to continue the trend of virtual events this year, the overhead associated with adding another is lower than ever.

This may be the first flagship fully designed for a pandemic audience.

Samsung isn’t the only company arguing for a collapse in the smartphone market, affecting people’s desire to replace their devices with expensive $ 1,000 + flagships, and for many, also replace these. The launch of the Galaxy S21 series at the same price points as it did with the S20 will be a bad look for the biggest smartphone makers in the world, so ahead of 2021 with a more cost-effective lineup of phones will ensure their success.

There is no question that the company, like every smartphone maker, is struggling to figure out how to best adjust to the times we live in. Samsung has already made existing phone owners a great service with the promise of three years of platform and security updates, and there is one phone for every budget.

But this Galaxy S lineup still receives the most attention, and the most investigation, from the general public. Launch of three phones with lots of power, new features, at lower prices would be the exact type of transition that one should expect from a company that is forced, year after year, to solve difficult structural problems in very little time.
